“Theodore Bikel: In The Shoes of Sholom Aleichem”

Theodore Bikel In the Shoes of Sholom Aleichem_courtesy National Center for Jewish Film_Photo 3A brand new documentary film will have its Chicago premiere on February 8th. Narrated by film star, Alan Alda, “Theodore Bikel: In The Shoes of Sholom Aleichem” will weave together the lives of two beloved icons of The Jewish Community.

 

Ths film, producd by the amazing Bikel is a mix of story telling, music, acting and biography. Sholom Aleichem was a pioneer of modern Jewish literature and gave us stories that brought us into the world of pre-war Eastern European Jewish life. Of course , most people recall his Tevye, the Milkman, who became the main character in “Fiddler on The Roof” ( a part that Bikel played more than 2,000 time sin his illustrious career.

 

This is an exciting event that will take place at Spertus Institute for Jewsih Learning and Leadership, located at 610 South Michigan Avenue on Sunday, February 8th at 2 p.m.. There will be a post screening discussion led by music critic Andrew Patner (Chicago Sun-Times and WFMT Chicago).

Tickets for this special event are $18 ($10 for Spertus members and $8 for students). They can be purchased on line at www.spertus.edu or by phone at 312-322-1773

 

Discount parking is available for this event at The Essex Inn ( two blocks south ) for $11 with validation at The Spertus (so bring your ticket with).
