Dusk Variations Series comes to Millennium Park

During these crazy days of Summer, Millennium Park has been bustling with activity- music of all types and styules to help heat up or cool off the music lovers of Chicago. To start off the month of August, back for its third season, the popular Dusk Variations series in the park will kick off with the classical fusion Turtle Island Quartet. This will take place on Monday, August 1st at 6:30 p.m. ( so all of you who couldn’t get into Wrigley for McCartney , will have a wonderful concert of your own at The Jay Pritzker Pavilion ( at the far North section of the park/at Randolph). This FREE concert which features the music of Jimi Hendrix and TIQ founder David Balakirishanan.

Turtle Island Quartet takes its audiencs on a journey through classical,jazz and world music styles. When it comes to jazz, any of you who may recall the legendary John Coltrane will have a treat of hearing some of his finest as well. This group has taken on many challenges in transforming one legendary musician after another into a whole new Genre and might I add, always with great success! This is the kickoff of this series presented by  The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with The Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture.

“Rasputina”- an unusual organic sound. A refreshing mix of classical sensibilities with a true rock attitude


August 22nd

A Steve Reich Celebration

the energetic world class Eighth Blackbird and Third Coast Percussion present a special salute to Steve Reich for his 75th Birthday. Witness “Double Sextet” a funky off-kilter jam session and then Reich’s mesmerizing “Music for 18 musicians” a number that will put a smile on your face and a melody in your soul.
