“Santana- The Corazon Tour” hits Ravinia

santana[rating=5] Despite, very, very wet conditions, the grassy area of Ravinia was filled, sidewalk to sidewalk of fans of the sounds of Santana. Not one of them was disappointed. Over two hours of non-stop music by Carlos and his son, Salvador, who really sound great together. But what makes this group so wonderful is the ensemble of musicians and his vocalists. Carlos , as always was in fine spirit and fine voice. His sense of humor shines s well. The audience filled with “Gringos” loved when he spoke about Donald Trump’s views on Mexicans. After all, Carlos is  Mexican-born. and while he grew up in Los Angeles, he is still a Mexican, living the American Dream as he would hope everyone has the opportunity to do.

There were only a few other remarks that could be taken as political. The evening was more about his music and his spirit as well as the “Love that makes the World Go Round”. Watching his work on the guitar is amazing. He even has some numbers where he plays two guitars during one song. A feat worth watching that is rare to say the least. Carlos speaks about believing in ourselves and if we do, we can reach higher levels. He speaks about respecting who we are and what we are. That we are significant! That we are meaningful! and that nothing can make us fail!santana2

Santana is unique in that his music reaches many cultures and certainly age groups. He is well into his 60’s and yet appeals to the younger set that paid top dollar for seats in the  “DRY”  Pavilion tonight. While it was dry and we could see the glaring lights and view some wonderful videos on the giant screen TV monitors, the people on the lawn were able to hear it all and did not have to worry about those who feel the need to rise and dance at their seats. Not always comfy having someone bump you for a 12 minute number. On the lawn, you are not planning to watch, only to listen, and you will find that at Ravinia, that is what works best!

This was a wonderful, and very entertaining concert/show that rates highly in my book. The fusion of Afro-Latino music and Rock N’ Roll is absolutely amazing. This group of energetic and talented performers will be on the stage again Sunday the 30th. It is hard to believe that they can do another 2 1/2 hours, but I am sure they will. Then they head off to the next spot on the Corazon Tour. If you can get a seat for this show, GRAB IT! It is one that you will remember for years. I am pretty sure he will come back next year, so if you miss this, make sure you catch Santana in 2016. Always stay tuned to www.ravinia.org.
