“Airport 1970 Something””

[rating=1]The play was billed as “Airport 1970 SOMETHING” , a parody that celebrates the popular Airport series disaster films and gives them the treatment they deserve with editing and dubbing by some of Chicago’s favorite actors who couldn’t think of an excuse to say no to being a part of the project.”

I have always enjoyed everything that Hell in a handbag does, but this time, and in this climate of no real theater, they missed the mark. What could have been a great parody and satire from a film that should have had so many good lines and zingers they totally missed it. I had to ask myself, and the other 4 people who wanted to watch with me, ” what was going on?”

A one hour and 20 min show had a total of 120 seconds of laughs. Sometimes the idea of the bitchy eccentric drag queen can go so far and seem so old after a while. To explain, they must have gotten the rights for the film Airport, The classic 1970’s air disaster movie that brought every old and classic actor together for one disaster. And then all the character’s voices were dubbed in by the cast of “Hell In A Handbag”, with new lines and zingers that were so off, it seems they did not even try. I understand the task in undertaking something like this, I did it back in 1976 with the hit film The Exorcist for a final project, and using technology from the 70’s was a better production.
